Catching Some Air

The veterinarian gave Kona permission to go for a walk.

I have been walking the dogs with stops along the way so as not to push Kona beyond the point of fatigue.

Despite the injury, Kona always wants to walk further…

and Lupita always wants to go home although she has no pain.

ACL Injury

It has been 5 days since Kona hurt her leg. She was still limping this morning. Hmm… her recovery was taking longer than expected. We were getting worried.

So first thing in this morning, we took Kona to our family vets.

Kona looked nervous in the waiting room.

Kona was diagnosed with ACL injury. It’s not ruptured but partially torn.

As soon as hearing the diagnosis, Scott reacted quickly.

Because he has had ACL reconstruction surgeries twice, he has a deeper knowledge of ACL injuries. He asked many questions until he was satisfied. We appreciated that the vet took time to carefully explain in English.

We discussed treatment options and chose one that we think the best for Kona. We will try to cure her with medical therapy instead of surgical therapy, i.e. pain control, rest and also weight reduction. It will take at least one month to heal. If it’s not healed after a month, we will consider other treatment options then.

After Kona came out of the consultation room…

Good news for you, Kona. The vet told us that you would be able to feel good again."

“Really?”

“I’m happy to hear that!”

Get Well Soon

Kona’s leg seems improved a little bit. Today she walked with a slight limp, her foot lightly touching the ground with each step. I took her out for a short walk for a change of scenery.

Take it easy. Let’s have a rest here.

Kona looked more alive when she was outside.

Hope your leg gets better soon, Kona.

Sunday Afternoon

We took Lupikona for a ride in a car.

“yippeee!”

We drove to an old Japanese house that has been converted into a cafe. The dog friendly outdoor seats were not available because of the strong sea breeze. But they prepared a table by the window for us, so…

Lupikona were able to see us from outside and…

we were able to see them and talk to them from inside.

We enjoyed the dishes of mainly fresh organic vegetables that conveyed to us that they took special care to prepare each dish.

Being treated warmly filled my heart with satisfaction as well as my stomach.

After lunch, we returned our beach house and took a nap.

Then in the late afternoon, we went for a short walk. We took Kona with us too.

She is capable of walking very well using only three legs.

Kona took a rest while Lupita wanted to play with Kona. I hope Kona’s leg heals soon so that they can run around together.

On the way back, Scott carried Kona in his arms.

Sunday Morning

Scott got up early and went surfing.

After surfing, Kona still needed to rest her leg, so...

we spent our morning reading a book at our beach house. Lupikona were lying down at our side. Playing on the beach is good, but spending time quietly enjoying being together is good too.

Lupita is happy to stay home. Zzz...

Kona likes going out. "I wonder if Scott and Yumi will take me out later..."

Kona’s Left Hind Leg

Kona is still limping and can’t put weight on her left hind leg that she hurt yesterday.

Standing on three legs as one eats is not easy. So she was lying down as she ate breakfast. It was good that she had a good appetite.

I bet her leg hurt. But she is well enough to ask me to take her for a walk.

What did we do the rest of our beach weekend with Kona who needs rest? Please wait for tomorrow ‘s post to find out.

Kona’s 5th Birthday

We went to the beach and it was covered by beach morning glory.

Happy birthday, Kona.

It’s Kona’s 5th birthday today.

It’s a good thing that she is full of energy. But...

maybe you got carried away today...

Kona hurt her hind leg on the beach. The vet told us that she needs to rest it and shouldn’t go for a walk for one week.

Get better soon, birthday girl!

TGIF

Although Scott usually works till late, he returned home much earlier than usual. So...

he made it to Lupikona’s evening walk.

We stopped by a new restaurant that recently opened up.

Their raspberry mint soda tastes so good.

Lupikona...

synchronized.

We hope you all have a good weekend.

Surfboard

A big parcel arrived from the US.

“What’s this?”

Scott opened the box at night.

At first, Lupita was curious to know what was in it.

However, it was shipped with lots of layers of packing materials. So it took time to unpack.

“Yawn…”

zzzzzz...

Finally we could see what was inside.

It’s a new surfboard!

It’s a long board designed by Takayama. It’s actually a beautiful red color, though it looks pink in picture.

It arrived in an excellent condition with no scratches. Scott is very happy. Can’t wait to go surfing!
