Last Play Day of the Year

Let’s play Frisbee!

“Toss it now!”

“Yipee!”

Lupita enjoyed running around.

Kona enjoyed jogging.

She is getting better and better. Thank goodness.

It was the last play session of 2013. You can tell how much fun they had from Lupita’s face!

Three Dogs on a Walk

I walked the three dogs together this evening.

Without training, Lily picked up how to “stay” by watching Lupikona do it.

After a long walk, zzz…

Today I took Lily out for a walk.

She walked at a brisk pace for an hour and a half.

Christmas Eve Dog Walk

Yesterday Lupikona went for a Christmas Eve Dog Walk with their doggie friends.

After walking, we had a Christmas picnic lunch, Boo-san’s homemade Hainan chicken rice and soup, and Stollen for dessert. We had a good time enjoying a nice lunch and pleasant chat.

And then, it was time for a Christmas photo session. The dogs that cooperated to provide entertainment for us are…

Kai, Taku...

Sarah and Peace.

Thanks everyone. It was fun walking with friends!

Merry Christmas 2013

Merry Christmas! Lupita and I went to the station. The Christmas lights were twinkling.

This is what I saw tonight…

a long line for KFC. In recent years, having KFC for Christmas dinner has become popular in Japan. It’s one of the things Scott was surprised about while living in Japan. He said the same thing wouldn't happen in the US.

This is what Scott saw in the US…

A row of Santas came to a restaurant to sit at the bar!

Yuzu

My auntie shared yuzu citruses from her garden.

Yuzu on Lupita.

I made some yuzu vinegar and candied yuzu peels.

Postoperative Examination

It has been six weeks since Kona’s knee surgery.

We took Kona to the animal hospital for a follow-up examination.

Kona has made good progress since last examination. Her rehab walk has been increased to one hour and we can also add jogging to her walk.

Good for you, Kona.

We will keep taking care of her so that she makes a complete recovery.

Komomaki

The pine trees are prepared for winter. They have had a straw blanket wrapped around their trunks.

Is it for cold protection? No, it isn’t.

Actually the “blanket” is a traditional way to get rid of harmful insects, called “Komomaki”. During winter, insects come and stay in the “Komo” for warmth. In spring, the Komo is removed and burned to exterminate them.

Sunday Coffee

On Sunday afternoon...

we walked under the wintery gingko trees.

We stopped by Starbucks.

I had a seasonal drink:

a gingerbread soy latte without whip cream.

It’s sunny, nice and warm.

We enjoyed a peaceful and leisurely coffee break with Lupikona.

Stroll Down to the Cafe

Lupikona and us walked together for the first time after Kona’s surgery.

We strolled down to a neighborhood café.

“What are you eating?”
